Year 5 Learning from home
Home Learning Update – 20/4/2020
I hope you have all had a lovely Easter and are ready to get back to work! Your should have now received a login for Google Classroom via Parent Mail or it is in the post! If you have received your log in you can now log on and complete the work that has been set for you!
To access Google Classroom follow the link below.
If you need help with setting up or using Google Classroom please use the help sheet below.
For this first week new learning has been added to the website and Google Classroom for the children to work on this week. For all other weeks work will be on Google Classroom only.
It is our expectation that the children will complete a section of Maths and Literacy each day and will then work on some of the theme activities. In addition Mrs Hyland has added weekly challenges for you to have a go at. We will post answers for the Maths and Literacy challenges on Friday so you can see how you have done. If you are using Google Classroom then you can message us if you are getting confused with anything and we will reply as soon as we can.
The Maths and Literacy challenges are set at 3 levels. Please check your report to see which ones you should be working on. If you were working below expectations try the developing challenges, if you were at expected standard do the expected challenges and if you are working at greater depth try the Greater Depth challenges.
This week we have set the following work on google classrooms:
Literacy: (complete one out of the three)
Maths: (complete one out of the three)
Topic: (complete as many as you can!)
Below is a download of the resource pack that all children were given in their report.
Visit the Year 5 White Rose Home Learning Page and complete the 5 lessons for this week, which are all about decimals. This is a topic we have done recently in class. Watch the video first before you attempt the questions. If you don’t have a printer, you can just answer the questions in your home learning book. Don’t forget to mark them using the answers provided. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/
Listen to the Rikki Tikki Tavi story, which is a short story from The Jungle Book, using the link below. Can you create a summarise the story in less than 100 words? Can you create a story board using pictures, speech bubbles and captions to retell the story? https://stories.audible.com/pdp/B0098OONQG?ref=adbl_ent_anon_ds_pdp_pc_pg-1-cntr-0-24
To continue your learning from class, can you find out more about Mexico and present this information in some way, such as a information leaflet, tourist information guide, Power Point presentation, poster etc.
Some questions you might want to try and find the answers to:
- What animals live in Mexico? What are they like?
- What plants grow in Mexico? What are they used for? Do they grow everywhere?
- What are the key places to visit on a trip to Mexico? Why should someone go there?
- What is the climate like? What is the best time of year to visit Mexico?
- What are the names of some of the volcanoes in Mexico? When did they last erupt?
- What is the food like in Mexico?
When you have finished presenting your work, why not send us a copy or photo of it? It might even appear on the school website.
Please log onto Education City where a range of different activities have been added for you to work through including Maths, English, Science, Computing and French.
Watch the video below about ‘The Easter Story.’ Can you create a story board to retell the story?
